Remembering Welcome Back, Kotter

There’s a show that I stumbled upon on Youtube that has been long forgotten by many adults and are not known by anyone born after 1980, but has such a timeless humor that even after hearing the title, many adults can recall how much they loved that show, and that show is Welcome Back, Kotter.

For those of you who do not know Welcome Back, Kotter, just watch his Youtube video:

What I loved about Welcome Back, Kotter was that even though the Sweat Hogs were the school “gang” of remedial students,
they weren’t really a “gang”. They were the misfits of the school who just loved messing around. It was in the 1970s when inner city gangs started ransacking low-income neighborhoods, but in Welcome Back, Kotter, they portrayed the other side of students who weren’t smart but didn’t take out take out their lack of intellect in a violent way. Then again, the show is a situation comedy so there would never be violence portrayed on the show, but it did speak of racial integrated students who can get together and enjoy each others company.

Welcome Back, Kotter is definitely a classic TV show in the purest sense. The humor of this show rings just as loud as it does back in the 1970s when it originally aired. Even if kids today were to watch this show, I can imagine them cracking up at the jokes the way we used to when this was on regular TV. In an interview in the cast on The Today Show, John Travolta said that her young daughter said how funny this show was.

Sad to say, shows like this are hard to come by these days. Thank God for Youtube for allowing us to remember great situation comedies. The TV series box set are available at various stores like Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, etc., so if you want to relive those times a Buchanan High School with Sweat Hogs or if you want to show this current generation a good quality TV show, pick it up and enjoy!
